Day 4 – Into Alberta

Driving through Cranbrook, B.C. and we see an old train station (this is to be the first of many) and we pulled over to have a look.

A beautiful old station that has been moved from it’s original location (again like many of the stations we have seen) and is now being used as a museum, gift shop and tourist booth.  We are traveling off season so unfortunately it was closed.  We did enjoy our walk around, looking through the windows and at the train.

Next was a quick stop at a grocery store in Fernie, B.C. and lo and behold there is the old train station next door.  It has been converted into an arts centre and restaurant.

As we continued our drive towards the Alberta border the landscape begins to change.  We pass through the majestic Rocky Mountains and enter the foothills.  Both are beautiful in their own ways.

One final stop in British Columbia brought us to a halt beside this Titan Truck.  This truck has to be seen in real life in order to be believed.  Built by General Motors of Canada, the 1974 Terex Titan – all 350 tonnes, 66 feet and 3,300 horsepower of it – lives in Sparwood.  Two Greyhound busses and 2 pickups can fit into the box, all at once!
